Stockholm Water Week
Children’s Water Way – the exhibition and global cooperation – attracted much attention at the Stockholm Water Week 21 – 26 August. 16 groups of children from East Africa, Italy and Sweden came with water landscapes visualising the water situation where they live. During three days the children presented their water landscapes to one another and build bridges between the 16 landscapes to a Global Water Way which arose curiosity and questions between the children.
The Water Way was presented as a Side Event to Mayors in the Water Week and a dialogue between the mayors and children took place in a plenary meeting. The last day the Children’s Water Way was open to all delegates in the conference. Many came to experience the Children’s Water Way and some experts took time and had long dialogues with the children. Children’s Water Way was a cooperation between Globetree and LVRLAC (Lake Victoria Region Local Authorities Cooperation) and received financial support from Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation) through the Union of the Baltic Cities.
The children united water in a special ceremony by the old oak tree at the court yard of the Stockholm City Hall. The Lord Mayor of Stockholm, Mr. Barry Andersson and H.W. Deputy Mayor of Kampala, Dr. Hasib Kabuye Takuba exchanged stones to mark their commitment to give full support for the World Championship in Cooperation in Stockholm 2006 and Kampala 2008.
