Inauguration Children’s Meeting Place
Borlänge Sweden 2002
Apple tree (Malus bachata)
The apple tree (Malus bachata) is standing in Liljekvistska parken in Borlänge. The children themselves have chosen that specific tree. At the inauguration Municipal Commissioner Ms. Marianne Nordlöf held a speech. In a letter to the Globetree she later wrote: “…At the UN meeting in Nairobi last year a tree was inaugurated as a meeting place between decision makers and children. We in our community, thought that was a good idea and now we also have a tree we call “The Children’s Tree”. A tree as a symbol of our ambition and will to take children’s viewpoints seriously…”
