Children’s Garden Tour in Sweden 2009
A group of ten children and youth and three leaders from Children’s Garden Home and School came to Sweden for a tour with the performance “Our Life”. More than 3000 children and adults saw the performance and interacted with the group in workshops and dialogues. Globetree cooperated with Kulturskolan in Stockholm (The Stockholm School of Arts) and Vår Teater (Our Theatre) in Farsta became the main stage.
The Katarina North School was the base for rehearsals and meeting place of supporting parent groups. The tour included programs in Tensta, Värmdö and Strängnäs municipalities. A full day in the Stockholm archipelago was supported by The Ports of Stockholm (Stockholms Hamnar). The performance at Nämdö Island filled all the benches of the church. The last days a school in Lidingö municipality and the YMCA-based Fryshuset organised programs.
When the group from Children’s Garden returned to Kenya they brought more than 750 kilos of shoes, clothes and a lot more which was donated during the tour in Sweden.
The response of the tour was overwhelming. All agreed it’s important to let orphans and children who live in slums and the streets speak up for themselves – share their life experiences. A dream we had in Globetree for many years came true! We thank the Swedish Institute for the financial support!
