Preparations for World Championship in Cooperation

Lord Mayor of Stockholm participated in the preparatory meetings of the World Championship in Cooperation 2006 and 2008 at the UN, Nairobi.

This Study Travel in December was aimed to prepare for the two World Championship in Cooperation (WorldCiC) next year in Stockholm and Kampala 2008. The Lord Mayor of Stockholm, Mr. Barry Andersson, participated and joined meetings at UN, Nairobi where WorldCiC was presented and discussed. Globetree had prepared the meetings at UN and Deputy Mayor of Kampala joined together with leaders of LVRLAC (Lake Victoria Region Local Authorities Cooperation). UNEP and UN Habitat responded very positive to the WorldCiC and suggested a follow up on World Environment Day in Alger (Algeria) 5 June and World Urban Forum in Vancouver, Canada 19-23 June. All agreed to give moral support to WorldCiC in Kampala 2008. Teachers, pupils and artists from Sweden, Uganda and Kenya participated in the study tour and visited Children’s Garden in Kawangare, a children’s home and school for children who lived and worked in the streets supported by Globetree since 2001. Mr. Barry Andersson planted a tree together with the children. Also a school for deaf and blind children was visited. All joined the planning for the WorldCiC in Stockholm and Kampala.
UNEP Deputy Executive Director Mr. Shafquat Kakakhel took time to meet the President of Globetree a few days before he resigned his office. Joyful memories and hearty laughs from the Global Roll of Honour Award Ceremony in Adelaide in Australia came to mind and Mr. Kakakhel hopes he can join the WorldCiC in Stockholm next year.
