The Stockholm City Council decides to be host for the first World Championship in Cooperation
In April the leaders of all 6 political parties in the City of Stockholm agreed to the Globetree proposal – Stockholm will host the first World Championship in Cooperation 2006.
June 17 the decision was formally taken together with financial support by the City Council.
The guiding themes for the World Championship in Cooperation: Environment – Diversity/Integration – Communication.
All over the world people are finding solutions to problems – creative initiatives which usually don’t find its way to the media. In June 2006 the idea is to put the limelight on the thousands of initiatives made all over the world to make our habitat a better place to live. The World Championship in Cooperation will make these ideas known all over the world.
Globetree believes Stockholm is a good representative for this new initiative. In 1972 Stockholm hosted the first United Nations conference on the Human Environment – in short called the Stockholm Conference. As a result of that conference, UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) was founded with its head office in Nairobi, Kenya. The World Environment Day, 5th of June, was proclaimed at the same occasion.
This year Globetree had focus to prepare municipalities for the World Championship in Cooperation and started with those who received the Golden Key, at the Future Vessel Events 1998 and 2002 at Stockholm Globe Arena.
At the exhibition during the Stockholm World Water Week in the middle of August Globetree announced both the World Championship in Cooperation and the cooperation between Lake Victoria and the Baltic Sea Region. At the exhibition, Globetree gave the agenda for the way ahead. Preparations are made for a Children’s Waterway inviting young people from Water Regions of the world as a side event to the 2005 Stockholm Water Symposium.
Director of the Stockholm City Districts are informed about the World Championship in Cooperation continuously updated.
